You can buy your own modem and router for Windstream's home internet service, Kinetic. Renting a modem-and-router gateway device from Windstream costs $10.99 per month, but you can avoid this fee by using your own equipment.

While the upfront cost of buying your own equipment may be higher than renting, you can save money over time. However, you'll need to do some research to ensure your equipment is compatible with Windstream and that you'll see a net savings.  Some compatible Kinetic WiFi Gateways include:

• Actiontec 3200, 3260, 3280, 3280v, 4220
• Nokia Beacon 6
• Sagemcom F5380
• Zyxel 7710 and 4510  

When you terminate your service with Windstream, you'll need to return your modem equipment. If you don't, Windstream may charge you for the modem or a $100 fee.

The option to add extenders has been removed. Technicians will determine the need for routing equipment during the Whole Home Wi-Fi installation.

• Connect all devices to Wi-Fi network (TV, cell phone, laptop, smart appliances, etc.)
• Install gateway in an unobstructed central location
• Complete Wi-Fi certification
